The Centro Studi Americani (CSA) is a non-profit association functioning under the supervision of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Founded shortly before the World War II, the CSA hosts a vast collection of American publications (essays, literature, history, poetry, theater etc.) donated by Harry Nelson Gay, professor of History at the University of Rome. The mission of the CSA is to foster dialogue and exchange among Italian and American intellectuals on cultural, political and economic topics. Over the years, the CSA has been organizing seminars and events exploring the relations between Italy and Europe and the U.S. Currently, the CSA is located inside Palazzo Mattei di Giove, one of the most prestigious examples of 17th century architecture in Rome. The palace was designed by the architect Carlo Maderno for Asdrubale Mattei, Marquis of Giove, and was built between 1598 and 1618. A collection of Roman statues as well as frescoes by renowned 17th century painters including Pietro da Cortona, Domenichino, il Pomarancio and Albani can be admired inside the palace.
